Darren Canning is a Canadia artist who paints all over the world.  He has done close to 3800 paintings in Acrylic and Watercolour.  He describes himself as an abstract expressionist artist who is more interested in the surreal than literal interpretations of form.  He has no formal training but has learned from painting with many different artist. 

 

His desire is to depict emotion through colour and the characters that he creates in his art.  His subject matter is broad.  He likes to paint scenes of nature including rivers, mountains, animals, but he will paint buildings and vehicles also.  He likes to paint the colours he sees in the season that he is in and so his art changes with the time of year or even from the part of the world that he is in. 

 

His greatest influences would include Van Gogh, Monet and the Group of Seven Canadian Artist. A big part of Darren’s journey is traveling the world.  He has been to 45 countries and has painted and done art schools in many of them.  He has paintings in Europe, Asia, Australia and throughout Canada and America.  He has become widely known through social media and has had his art presented on television in the USA. He is married to Lydia and is the father of seven children.  He lives in the Almonte, Ontario area many of his paintings are influenced by the landscapes and structures in the region.
